Namo Buddhaya!
Namo  Tassa  Bhagavato  Arahato  Samma  Sambuddhassa !
Homage to the Blessed One, the Worthy One, the Supremely Enlightened One!

Anuruddha Sutta – Eight Thoughts of a Great Person.

(The Supreme Buddha Preached this discourse to Venerable Anuruddha first and then to Bhikkus.)

            (1)       " Bhikkhus, this Dhamma is for one with few desires, not for one with strong desires. Here, when a bhikkhu is one with few desires, he does not desire: ‘Let people know me to be one with few desires.’ When he is content, he does not desire: ‘Let people know me to be one who is content.’ When he resorts to solitude, he does not desire: ‘Let people know me to be one who resorts to solitude.’ When he is energetic, he does not desire: ‘Let people know me to be energetic.’ When he is mindful, he does not desire: ‘Let people know me to be mindful.’ When he is concentrated, he does not desire: ‘Let people know me to be concentrated.’ When he is wise, he does not desire: ‘Let people know me to be wise.’ When he delights in non-proliferation, he does not desire: ‘Let people know me to be one who delights in non-proliferation. NAMOBUDDAYA!
Namothassa Bhagawato Arahato Samma Sambuddassa....
Homage to the Blessed One. The Worthy One. The Supremely Enlightened One.

Creeping  - Discourses of  Sansappanipariyaya ND-216

"Bhikkhus, I will teach you an exposition of the Dhamma on creeping. Listen and attend closely. I will speak."
"Yes, Bhante," those bhikkhus replied. The Blessed One said this:

"And what, bhikkhus, is that exposition of the Dhamma on creeping? Bhikkhus, beings are the owners of their kamma, the heirs of their kamma; they have kamma as their origin, kamma as their relative, kamma as their resort; whatever kamma they do, good or bad, they are its heirs.

(1) "Here, someone destroys life; he is murderous, bloody-handed, given to blows and violence, merciless to living beings. He creeps along by body, speech, and mind.
His bodily kamma is crooked; his verbal kamma is crooked; his mental kamma is crooked. His destination is crooked; his rebirth is crooked.
But for one with a crooked destination and rebirth,
I say, there is one of two destinations: either the exclusively painful hells or a species of creeping animal.
And what are the species of creeping animals? The snake, the scorpion, the centipede, the mongoose, the cat, the mouse, and the owl, or any other animals that creep away when they see people.
Thus a being is reborn from a being; one is reborn through one's deeds.
When one has been reborn, contacts affect one.
It is in this way, I say, that beings are the heirs of their kamma.

 Mahāsatipaṭṭhāna Sutta
The Greater Discourse on the Foundations of Mindfulness(DN22)
Thus have I heard. Once the Lord was staying among the Kurus. There is a market-town of theirs called Kammāsadhamma. And there the Lord addressed the monks: ‘Monks!’ ‘Lord’, they replied, and the Lord said:

‘There is, monks, this one way to the purification of beings, for the overcoming of sorrow and distress, for the disappearance of pain and sadness, for the gaining of the right path, for the realisation of Nibbāna: - that is to say the four foundations of mindfulness.

‘What are the four? Here, monks, a monk abides contemplating body as body, ardent, clearly aware and mindful, having put aside hankering and fretting for the world; he abides contemplating feelings as feelings ... ; he abides contemplating mind as mind ... ; he abides contemplating mind-objects as mind-objects, ardent, clearly aware and mindful, having put aside hankering and fretting for the world.’

  1. MN-141: Saccavibhangasutta - The Exposition of the Truths
And what frieds is right concentration?
Here, detached from sensual pleasures, detached from unwholesome states, a monk enters upon and abides in the first jhana, which is accompanied by applied and sustained thought, with rapture and pleasure born of seclusion.
With the stilling of applied and sustained thought. he enters upon and abides in the second jhana, which has self – confidence and singleness of mind, without applied and sustained thought, with rapture and pleasure born of concentration.
With the fading away as well of rapture, he abides in equanimity, and mindful and fully aware, still feeling pleasure with the body. he enters upon and abides in the third jhana, on account of which noble ones announce: 'He has a pleasant abiding who has equanimity and is mindful.'
With the abandoning of pleasure and pain, and with the earlier disappearance of joy and grief. he enters upon and abides in the fourth jhana, which has neither – pain, nor – pleasure and purity of mindfulness and equanimity.
This friends, is called right concentration.
"This is called the noble truth of the way leading to the cessation of suffering.

MN-141: Saccavibhangasutta - The Exposition of the Truths"And what, friends, is right effort? Here a Monk generates desire for the non-arising of unarisen evil unwholesome states, and thus he makes effort, arouses energy, makes his mind determined, and strives hard.

He generates desire for the abandoning of arisen evil unwholesome states, and thus, he makes effort, arouses energy, make his mind determined, and strives hard.

He generates desire for the arising of unarisen wholesome states, and thus, he makes effort, arouses energy, makes his mind determined, and strives hard.

He generates desire for the continuance, non-disappearance, strengthening, increase, and fulfilment by development of arisen wholesome states, and thus he makes effort, arouses energy, makes his mind determined, and strives hard. This is called right effort.

SN 56:102 Passing away as human – Manussa Chuthi sutta
Then the Blessed One took up a little bit of soil in his fingernail and addressed the bhikkhus thus:
"What do you think, bhikkhus, which is more: the little bit of soil in my fingernail or the great earth?"
"Venerable sir, the great earth is more. The little bit of soil that the Blessed One has taken up in his fingernail is trifling. Compared to the great earth, the little bit of soil that the Blessed One has taken up in his fingernail is not calculable, does not bear comparison, does not amount even to a fraction."
"So too, bhikkhus, those beings are few who, when they pass away as human beings, are reborn among human beings. But those beings are more numerous who, when they pass away as human beings, are reborn in hell. For what reason? Because, bhikkhus, they have not seen the Four Noble Truths. What four? The noble truth of suffering, the noble truth of the origin of suffering, the noble truth of the cessation of suffering, the noble truth of the way leading to the cessation of suffering.

"Here, venerable sir, wanderers of other sects ask us: ‘For what purpose, friends, is the holy life lived under the ascetic Gotama?’ When we are asked thus, venerable sir, we answer those wanderers thus: ‘It is, friends, for the full understanding of suffering that the holy life is lived under the Blessed One.’ We hope, venerable sir, that when we answer thus we state what has been said by the Blessed One and do not misrepresent him with what is contrary to fact; sn.v.7 that we explain in accordance with the Dhamma, and that no reasonable consequence of our assertion gives ground for criticism."

SAMMA DITTHI SUTTA – RIGHT VIEW (MN-09)

The venerable Sāriputta said this:

"‘One of right view, one of right view,’ is said, friends. In what way is a noble disciple one of right view, whose view is straight, who has unwavering confidence in the Dhamma, and has arrived at this true Dhamma?"

"Indeed, friend, we would come from far away to learn from the venerable Sāriputta the meaning of this statement. It would be good if the venerable Sāriputta would explain the meaning of this statement. Having heard it from him, the bhikkhus will remember it."
"Then, friends, listen and attend closely to what I shall say."
"Yes, friend," the bhikkhus replied. The venerable Sāriputta said this:

The Wholesome and the Unwholesome
"When, friends, a noble disciple understands the unwholesome and the root of the unwholesome, the wholesome and the root of the wholesome, in that way he is one of right view, whose view is straight, who has unwavering confidence in the Dhamma and has arrived at this true Dhamma.
"And what, friends, is the unwholesome, what is the root of the unwholesome, what is the wholesome, what is the root of the wholesome? Killing living beings is unwholesome; taking what is not given is unwholesome; misconduct in sensual pleasures is unwholesome; false speech is unwholesome; malicious speech is unwholesome; harsh speech is unwholesome; gossip is unwholesome; covetousness is unwholesome; ill will is unwholesome; wrong view is unwholesome. This is called the unwholesome.

Dhammachakkappavattana sutta – Setting in Motion the Wheel of Dhamma

 Thus have I heard;
On one occasion the blessed One was living in the deer Park at Isipathana near Baranasi. Then the Blessed One addressed the group of five monks:

Monks, these two extremes ought not to be participated by one who has gone forth from the household life. There is addiction to indulgence in sense-pleasures, which is low, coarse, and the way of ordinary people, not practised by nobel ones, and is unbeneficial;

And there is addiction to self-mortification, which is painful not practised by nobel ones, and unbeneficial.
Avoiding both these extremes, monks, the Tathāgata has realized the Middle Path which gives vision, give knowledge; and leads to calm, to insight, to enlightenment, and to Nibbana.

Hunger is its defilement, I say; suffering is the world’s great fear."

  1. "And what, bhikkhus, is the peril of self-reproach? Here, someone reflects thus: ‘If I were to engage in bodily, verbal, or mental misconduct, wouldn’t I reprove myself because of my behavior?’ Afraid of the peril of self-reproach, he abandons bodily misconduct and develops bodily good conduct; he abandons verbal misconduct and develops verbal good conduct; he abandons mental misconduct and develops mental good conduct; he maintains himself in purity. This is called the peril of self-reproach.

Kuseetharambawattu sutta – Grounds for Laziness and Arousing Energy (AN8-80)

"Bhikkhus( Monks), there are these eight grounds for laziness. What eight?
(1) "Here, a bhikkhu (monk) has to do some work. It occurs to him: ‘I have some work to do. While I’m working, my body will become tired. Let me lie down.’ He lies down. He does not arouse energy for the attainment of the as-yet-unattained, for the achievement of the as-yet-unachieved, for the realization of the as-yet-unrealized. This is the first ground for laziness.
(2) "Again, a bhikkhu has done some work. It occurs to him: ‘I’ve done some work. Because of the work, my body has become tired. Let me lie down.’ He lies down. He does not arouse energy … for the realization of the as-yet-unrealized. This is the second ground for laziness.
(3) "Again, a bhikkhu has to make a trip. It occurs to him: ‘I have to make a trip. While traveling, my body will become tired. Let me lie down.’ He lies down. He does not arouse energy … for the realization of the as-yet-unrealized. This is the third ground for laziness.
(4) "Again, a bhikkhu has made a trip. It occurs to him: ‘I’ve made a trip. While traveling, my body has become tired. Let me lie down.’ He lies down. He does not arouse energy … for the realization of the as-yet-unrealized. This is the fourth ground for laziness.
(5) "Again, a bhikkhu has walked for alms in a village or town but has not gotten as much food as he needs, whether coarse or excellent. It occurs to him:  ‘I’ve walked for alms in the village or town but didn’t get as much food as I need, whether coarse or excellent. My body has become tired and unwieldy. Let me lie down.’ He lies down. He does not arouse energy … for the realization of the as-yet-unrealized. This is the fifth ground for laziness.

THE NUMARICAL DISCOURSES OF THE BUDDHA.

Sussuusathi Sutta - One Wishes to Listen (AN6-88)

"Bhikkhus (Monks), possessing six qualities, even while listening to the good Dhamma one is incapable of entering upon the fixed course (consisting) in rightness in wholesome qualities. What six? When the Dhamma and discipline proclaimed by the Tathāgata(the Buddha) is being taught,
(1) one does not wish to listen;- (na sussūsati)
(2) one does not lend an ear;-  (na sotaṁ odahati)
(3) one does not set one's mind on understanding; -  ( na aññā cittaṁupaṭṭhāpeti )
(4) one grasps the meaning wrongly; -  (anatthaṁ gaṇhāti)
(5) one discards the meaning; and - (atthaṁ riñcati)
(6) one has adopted a conviction that is not in conformity (with the teaching.) . ( ananulomikāyakhantiyā samannāgato)

Aani sutta - Discourses of the Drum Peg (SN02-20:7)
At Savatthi. "Bhikkhus, once in the past the Dasarahas had a kettle drum called the Summoner. When the Summoner became cracked, the Dasarahas inserted another peg.  Eventually the time came when the Summoner's original drumhead had disappeared and only a collection of pegs remained.
"So too, bhikkhus, the same thing will happen with the bhikkhus in the future. When those discourses spoken by the Tathagata(Buddha) that are deep, deep in meaning, supra-mundane (spiritual / transcendental) in the world, dealing with emptiness, are being recited, they will not be eager to listen to them, nor lend an ear to them, nor apply their minds to understand them; and they will not think those teachings should be studied and mastered. But when those discourses that are mere poetry composed by poets, beautiful in words and phrases, created by outsiders, spoken by their disciples, are being recited, they will be eager to listen to them, will lend an ear to them, will apply their minds to understand them; and they will think those teachings should be studied and mastered. In this way, bhikkhus, those discourses spoken by the Tathagata that are deep, deep in meaning, supra-mundane, dealing with emptiness, will disappear.

THE  SHORTED  DISCOURSES  OF  THE  BUDDHA.
The Theri Gatha – Section of sixteen Verses

The verses of Arahant Nun Punna

01.- [Maid Punna]- I am a maid who carries water, Fearing punishment and the insults of my house owner, I have always gone down to the river to get water, even in the coldest of weather. I didn't want to get blamed for any error.

02.- But, Braahmin, who do you fear that makes you go down to the river every morning and evening? It is so cold that your body shivers.

03.- [Braahmin]- Puṇṇikā, why do you ask me this when you already know the answer? When I'm at the river, I'm washing away evil and performing wholesome deeds.

04.- Whoever young or old has committed any evil action (bad kamma / result of bad action) is able to be? Freed from evil by bathing in water.

Seevathikaya sutta - Discourses of A charnel ground (AN05- 249)

"Bhikkhus, there are these five dangers in a charnel ground(a land where corpses were discarded in the ancient time) . What five?
It is impure, foul-smelling, dangerous, the abode of wild spirits, a place where many people weep.
These are the five dangers in a charnel ground. So too, there are these five dangers in a person who is similar to a charnel ground. What five?
  1. "Here, some person engages in impure bodily, verbal, and mental action. This, I say, is how he is impure. Just as that charnel ground is impure, I say this person is similarly so.

Homage to the Blessed One. The Worthy One. The Supremely Enlightened One.

At Savatthi. There the Blessed One said this:

"Bhikkhus, one thing, when developed and cultivated, is of great fruit and benefit. What one thing? Mindfulness of breathing. And how, bhikkhus, is mindfulness of breathing developed and cultivated so that it is of great fruit and benefit?

"Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu, having gone to the forest, to the foot of a tree, or to an empty hut, sits down. Having folded his legs crosswise, straightened his body, and set up mindfulness in front of him, just mindful he breathes in, mindful he breathes out.

1. The mind is so fickle and agitated. It is very difficult to protect and very challenging to guard from evil. The wise person straightened his mind as an arrow maker straighten an arrow shaft.
